Abstract

This article describes the major problems of the Polish economy at the beginning of the twenty-first century. It argues that the financial aid, which will be transferred to Poland by the European Commission during the period 2014–20, will have positive consequences for the Polish economy only if the funding is spent with a clear goal of increasing competitiveness and innovativeness of the Polish economy. Otherwise, with high labor costs and no competitive advantage over other Central and Eastern European countries, after the year 2020 Poland is likely to fall into recession.
