Abstract
The liberation of Poland from dictatorship and foreign domination, and its transformation into a democracy allied with the United States after its admission to NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization), fulfilled the original mission of the Polish American Congress (PAC), founded in 1944. This success brought with it the challenge of rethinking the organization’s objectives. For a variety of reasons, little was done to meet this challenge until 2008, when the PAC began taking a series of steps to determine its future course. These steps have included the adoption of a revised mission statement and a pair of meetings held in 2014. Still, the task of equipping the PAC to play a significant role in American civic life remains a work in progress.
