Abstract
The author of a planned tetralogy of historical novels, set in seventeenth to eighteenth- century Poland- Lithuania and originally published in Lithuanian, discusses her project, of which the first three installments were published between 2008 and 2014. She begins with an overview of Lithuanian historical fiction and its conventions, from which her own departs in significant ways. The Silva Rerum series depicts the era of decline of the Polish- Lithuanian Commonwealth, told through the multigenerational story of a Lithuanian noble family of Samogitia and Vilnius. Care has been taken to reflect historical and linguistic accuracy. The forthcoming final volume will conclude with the end of the old Commonwealth.
