Christen Mucher is associate professor of American Studies at Smith College (Massachusetts), where she teaches courses on early North America, Native and Indigenous Studies, US empire, and museum studies. She is the coeditor of Decolonizing “Prehistory”: Deep Time and Indigenous Knowledges in North America (Tucson: University of Arizona Press, 2021) with Gesa Mackenthun. Her monograph Before American History: Archives, Antiquities, and Native Pasts, which addresses archaeology, historiography, and Indigenous dispossession in the United States and Mexico from the 1780s to the 1830s, is forthcoming from University of Virginia Press.
