Abstract. Widely regarded as a seminal work that redefined wuxia film, King Hu’s debut Come Drink With Me (1966) demonstrates a distinctive appropriation of Peking opera. This paper investigates Hu’s unique creation of cinema opera, focusing on the use of music and Chinese operatic expressions in his early wuxia films.
