Abstract

This article illustrates a possible approach to teaching film sound in academic courses focusing on the concept of material form, described as the interrelation of the soundtrack, the sound apparatus, and the sound text. This approach takes into consideration issues and ideas from other approaches and theories, such as film preservation and presentation, media archaeology, history of sound technologies, cinema as event, and performance.
