Abstract

The ancient quarrel between philosophy and poetry? I chip away at the quarrel, asking why we should think that poets do not aim at truth or why philosophers do not aim at beauty. Why shouldn’t poetry have a place in the philosophy seminar and vice-versa? Crucial to my chipping-away is the idea that there is an expanded but still meaningful sense of “logic” in which poetry is a logical exercise.
