Making the Hang in Chile at Thelonious, Lugar de Jazz

ALEX W. RODRÍGUEZ is a jazz anthropologist, improviser, and trombonist currently serving as managing director for the International Society for Improvised Music. His research focuses on jazz practice around the world and the communities that sustain it on a global scale. His writing has appeared in DownBeat, Jazz Perspectives, LA Weekly, the Newark Star-Ledger, and NPR Music. He has served as editor-in-chief for Ethnomusicology Review, led the jazz ensembles at Reed College, and taught in the Arts and Humanities Division at Babson College. Dr. Rodríguez holds an MA in jazz history and research from Rutgers University-Newark and a PhD in ethnomusicology from University of California, Los Angeles.
