In this volume, we are delighted to be featuring the first published results of exhaustive primary research conducted on the figure of Paul (Paolo) Busti, the chief operations officer for the Holland Land Company from 1797 until his death in 1824. Independent scholars John Everett Jones and Paolo Semenza argue that despite Busti being responsible for shaping the economic, political, cultural, and physical development of vast territories in western New York and making key decisions that led to the emergence of Buffalo as a major American city, he has been the victim of an historical erasure resulting from anti-Italian sentiment and nativist rivalries.
