Carmine Abate, who was born in the Arberëshë community of Carfizzi in Southern Italy in 1954, has written numerous novels and short stories through the years that have mainly focused on his beloved native land. Carfizzi is a commune in Calabria, Italy, and it is close in distance to many other Arbëreshë communities in Italy. Although Carmine Abate was raised in a southern region in Italy, he grew up feeling more Arberëshë than Italian due to constantly being surrounded by his people, traditions, and native language. Through his unique gift for bringing to life a diverse heritage and culture as well as marvelous works and detailed descriptions of scenery and the people known as Arberëshë, he has introduced his readers to a community that is not very well known but definitely should be.
