“We Provide a Place to Not Be Okay”: Emotional Labor in Performance and Queer Amateur Music Spaces
Ryan J. Lambe is a PhD candidate studying cross-cultural musicology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His dissertation is an ethnography of performance and emotion in US queer open mics examined through queer and critical race lenses. He earned a bachelor of music education at Idaho State University and a master of arts in music from UC Santa Cruz. Ryan’s research interests include amateur and community musics, gender and sexuality, critical pedagogy, and popular music.
