From the Sidelines: Reginald Beane’s Broadway
Julianne Lindberg is assistant professor of musicology at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her research interests include musical theater, musical modernism in Europe and the U.S., and children’s musical cultures. She received her PhD in musicology from UCLA with a dissertation that explored the “childlike” in French music at the fin de siècle. Her first book, Pal Joey: The History of a Heel (forthcoming with Oxford University Press), traces the genesis and cultural significance of Rodgers and Hart’s classic comedy Pal Joey. Work related to this project has appeared in Studies in Musical Theatre, in the Routledge Companion to Jazz, and in The Oxford Handbook of Musical Theatre Screen Adaptations.
