Consciousness-raising and Liberation: The Latin American Progressive-Catholic Student Movements and the Regional Version of the Revision of Life Method (1955–1968)

This article examines the mobilization of the Catholic student youth in Latin America and the project of “consciousness-raising” and “liberation of La Patria Grande” they envisioned. At the core of this project, this article contends, an original ideological synthesis fused critical progressive-Catholic views with Latin America’s intellectual developments and political ideas. The particularity of this project shall underscore the unique unfolding of the Specialized Catholic Action model and the Revision of Life Method in the region.
