A History of Renaissance Rhetoric 1380–1620

John D. Schaeffer ([email protected]) is a professor of English at Northern Illinois University, where he teaches courses in the history of rhetoric and in Renaissance English literature. He has published articles on these subjects in PMLA, Studies in Philology, Rhetorica, Rhetoric Society Quarterly, Milton Quarterly, and other journals. He is also the author of Sensus Communis: Vico, Rhetoric, and the Limits of Relativism (1990).
