Most items in Section A, “Bernard Shaw on Music,” are listed in Dan H. Laurence's two-volume Bernard Shaw: A Bibliography (Clarendon, 1983) and are followed by reference numbers in brackets. Note that Laurence often provides data not included here (because of space constraints), such as volume, issue, or page numbers, republication venues, individuals' names, composition or book titles, background information, and cross-references.

The most recent selection of Shaw's musical reviews and criticism is Bernard Shaw on Music, edited by Brigitte Bogar and Christopher Innes (RosettaBooks, 2016), which supersedes Eric Bentley's Shaw on Music. A Selection from the Music Criticism of Bernard Shaw (Doubleday, 1955; reissued 1995). Bogar and Innes reprint a number of essays from Laurence's definitive three-volume Shaw's Music: The Complete Musical Criticism (Max Reinhardt / The Bodley Head, 1981) [A310], which supersedes Shaw's own three-volume Music in London 1890–94: Criticisms Contributed Week by Week to “The World”...
