This study interprets Danielle Evans's short story “Harvest” (2010) using the frameworks of Black feminist theory and Afro-Pessimism. The protagonist, an African American college student, is first rejected as an egg donor, then becomes pregnant unexpectedly. In its wider socio–historical and literary context, the protagonist's sudden decision not to get an abortion is undergirded by the reproductive rights abuses endured by African American women for centuries.
