I hope that future issues of the Journal of Posthuman Studies will address explicitly scholarly engagements with the political in more detail. I would be grateful if it were possible to focus directly on the question of liberal democracies, as this topic seems to be one of the most crucial political issues in posthuman studies. It seems to play a central role in the conflict between critical posthumanists and transhumanists. Whether such a conflict is necessary or not is an issue which needs to be further explored.
I employ a particularly wide notion of liberal democracies, as I refer to the whole range of political approaches from libertarian understandings à la Nozick to social liberal democracies such as one can find in several European countries.
