joseph t. thomas, jr. is Professor of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University, where he also serves as director of the National Center for the Study of Children’s Literature. Alongside Kenneth Kidd, Thomas coedited Prizing Children’s Literature: The Cultural Politics of Children’s Book Awards (Routledge, 2016) and is a founding judge and the current editor of the Lion and the Unicorn Poetry Award. He’s written a handful of essays and two books, Poetry’s Playground: The Culture of Contemporary American Children’s Poetry (Wayne State UP, 2007) and Strong Measures (Make Now P, 2007). His work commonly explores the intersections among child culture, children’s literature, and innovative writing.
