ABSTRACT

Shadowing, a language learning technique, involves learners’ immediate repetition of spoken language, aiming to mimic nativelike speech. This article demonstrates how the shadowing technique can be utilized as a semester-long project in intermediate Korean classes in order to provide extensive pronunciation and speaking practice. The article presents weekly schedules and discusses the implementation of feedback and assessments. This study found that integrating the Shadowing Project fostered students’ agency, confidence, and motivation in speaking while requiring minimal modifications to the curriculum. These findings strongly suggest that shadowing assignments can be implemented as an effective pedagogical tool in a wide range of institutions with diverse student populations.
