This volume marks a major milestone for The Korean Language in America. As of October 2017, KLA has been accepted for inclusion in SCOPUS, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, on recommendation of its Content Selection and Advisory Board that evaluated KLA with respect to article citation, editorial policy, production schedule and online access. Many thanks are owed to the Penn State University Press Journals Team for this outstanding achievement.

The acceptance of KLA in SCOPUS makes it timely to commemorate earlier milestones in the journal history. Dr. Hye Sook Wang (Editor-in-Chief, 2005–2014), led the efforts to establish KLA as the first and only peer-reviewed journal specializing in Korean as a second language in North America. Dr. Wang succeeded in developing conference proceedings progressively into a peer-reviewed journal, as of Vol. 13 (2008).
