Abstract

In this article Mariela A. Rodriguez discusses the importance of school administrators leading from within, from their soul. The article begins with an introduction of the foundations of the soul that influenced her thinking related to leading from within. Rodriguez provides a brief review of the historical research literature about spirituality in educational leadership and presents a conceptual framework called “Alma Leadership,” which demonstrates the ways that school leaders can enact the principles of social justice in their schools. Discussion focuses on the implications for the preparation of school leaders, as well as those currently in positions of leadership in schools and school districts.
