Katy Masuga is a writer and professor of comparative literature living in Paris. Her first experience abroad came during her final year of university in Tübingen, Germany, where she learned German well enough to complete half a Master's degree in philosophy during the subsequent two years at Albert-Ludwigs Universität in Freiburg, Germany (eventually earning an MA at University of Colorado, Boulder). It was a year before her PhD (University of Washington, Seattle) that she moved to Paris for the first time, working as an assistant English teacher for French children and living with a boyfriend in 9m2, where the owner accused them of breathing too much when mold began forming on their clothes and shoes in the closet over winter. Masuga lived in Berlin and England during her doctoral studies, and returned to Paris after completing her PhD. She now teaches at Skidmore College in Paris.
