Abstract
The development of productions of Pinter's plays in Russia in the years 1970 to 1994 is briefly discussed with reference to six principal productions. Two new productions in 2000 that took a new direction are examined in detail through on-stage performance and personal interviews. The productions are sharply contrasted in their approach to Pinter text. The shared weakness of Russian interpretations of Pinter's work is identified and discussed.
