PRITI JOSHI is Professor of English at the University of Puget Sound, where she teaches George Eliot every so often, and also the Brontës, the British empire, nonfiction prose essay, travel writing, and Indian fiction and film. She is the author of Empire News: The Anglo-Indian Press Writes India (SUNY Press, 2021).
CHARLES LAPORTE is Professor of English at the University of Washington in Seattle. His book Victorian Poets and the Changing Bible (Virginia, 2011) devotes a chapter to George Eliot's poetry and her understanding of poetics. His most recent publication is The Victorian Cult of Shakespeare: Bardology in the Nineteenth Century (Cambridge, 2021).
