robert s. littlefield (Ph.D., University of Minnesota) is a professor of communication at North Dakota State University in Fargo. His research interests include risk and crisis communication, intercultural communication, and emergency management. His work has appeared in the Journal of Applied Communication Research; the Journal of Intercultural Communication Research; Communication, Culture and Critique; and Argumentation and Advocacy. His is co-author of Effective Risk Communication: A Message-Centered Approach and has published several monographs for researchers and scholars working with multicultural publics. He is the immediate past editor of Communication Studies, a journal sponsored by the Central States Communication Association.

jessica m. rick (M.A., North Dakota State University) is a doctoral candidate at the University of Missouri. She studies the communicative constructions of identity and stigma as gender, social class, and family diversity intersect, primarily within work-life contexts. Recent projects have focused on the societal discourses surrounding gender and stay-at-home parenting, social class influences on work-like balance, gendered experiences of engineering students, and the stigmas surrounding unemployment. She is currently studying how parent workers and childfree workers navigate flexibility stigma in the workplace.

jenna l. currie-mueller (M.S., North Dakota State University) is a doctoral student in the Department of Communication at North Dakota State University. She is studying media and society and organizational communication, with an emphasis in emergency management. Her research interests include risk and crisis communication, media framing, and supervisor-subordinate relationships in organizations.
