richard kopley, Distinguished Professor of English, Emeritus, Penn State DuBois, is the author of The Threads of The Scarlet Letter (2003), Edgar Allan Poe and the Dupin Mysteries (2008), and numerous scholarly articles and chapters on Hawthorne and Poe. He is also an editor of several books, including, most recently, Ebenezer Wheelwright's 1842 novel The Salem Belle, a source for The Scarlet Letter. Furthermore, he edits the Penn State University Press journal Resources for American Literary Study and serves as an editor-in-chief of the American literature module of Oxford Bibliographies Online. He is a former president of the Poe Studies Association and the Nathaniel Hawthorne Society. And he writes short stories and children's picture books.
