aldo corcella is Professor of Classical Philology at the Università degli Studi della Basilicata (Potenza–Matera, Italy). He is a specialist in ancient historiography and rhetoric, as well as in the history of classical tradition in modern times. Among his publications are A Commentary on Herodotus Books I–IV (2007, with David Asheri and Alan Lloyd); Procope de Gaza, Discours et fragments (2014, with Eugenio Amato and Gianluca Ventrella); Friedrich Spiro filologo e libraio. Per una storia della S. Calvary & Co. (2014); and Giovanni Eugenico (?), Lettera d'invettiva contro il patriarca Metrofane II (2015).

Abstract

The article aims at showing that some “Marginalia” in the first two installments of the series (items 1, 4, 9, 10, 14, 22, 24, 25, 36, 55, 68, 71, 84, and maybe also 69 in Pollin's edition) were inspired by articles published in the December 1794 issue of the London journal The British Critic, a New Review.
