Translator’s Introduction to “Transcendence and Paratranscendence”

BENJAMIN BREWER is a postdoctoral fellow in the Excellence Cluster “Temporal Communities: Doing Literature in a Global Perspective” at the Freie Universität Berlin. His work focuses on the intersection of ontology, aesthetics, and politics in nineteenth- and twentieth-century European philosophy and literature. His current research reconstructs how philosophical debates about the relational nature of time and essence in post-Kantian German thought were bound up in political debates about national and racial identity, history, and violence. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in journals such as Philosophy Today and Oxford Literary Review.
