Mario A. Ortiz (Ph.D., Hispanic Literature, Indiana University, 2000) is Assistant Professor of Latin American Colonial Studies in the Department of Humanities and American Studies at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He has previously taught at Miami University of Ohio. His research focuses on trans-Atlantic musico-literary studies from the early modern period. He is currently working on a book that examines musical humanism in the New World and its incorporation into the poetics of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.
