Dear readers,
It is with sadness that I write to you to mark the passing of Saskia Hamilton, who was undoubtedly known personally or through her work to so many of you. Meeting her was a memorable part of the conference organized by Thomas Austenfeld at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, in March 2017 to mark Lowell’s 100th birthday. Saskia was a speaker at that gathering and it was a great privilege to be at her talk.
Also present at that conference was Diederik Oostdijk, who I wish to thank sincerely for his contribution in this volume of a personal tribute to Saskia, which her family has been hugely helpful in assisting Diederik with at this sad time.
