Seth Ehorn has assembled an accomplished group of New Testament scholars who examine the use of Exodus in the New Testament. Ehorn’s edited collection is a much-welcomed addition, offering several unique contributions to the field. The scope of this work is comprehensive, providing a (mostly) book-by-book analysis of NT texts. Only a few NT texts are omitted, presumably because of their perceived lack of engagement with Exodus. This book’s intended audience is geared toward scholars. However, most essays provide a nice balance between specialized concerns and helpful (at times, even inspiring) interpretive conclusions that non-scholars will find useful. The contributors use diverse hermeneutical approaches and work from varying definitions of “exodus.” Some authors mostly limit their examination to the book of Exodus (Longacre, Gurtner, Tabb/Walton, Westfall), while others examine wider scenes after Israel’s departure from Egypt included in Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy (Brown, Köstenberger, Ehorn).
