Hans Kvalbein enjoyed a lengthy career at the Norwegian School of Theology in Oslo, first as a student and then later as a member of the faculty, until his retirement in 2011; he passed away in 2013. Among his many interests was the mission of the church in the NT era and today. This collection of essays from 15 friends honors his work and memory by focusing on the theme announced in the book’s title. The authors hail primarily from Scandinavia and Germany, though all essays appear in English.

David E. Aune introduces the volume with an overview of each individual essay. Reidar Hvalvik then offers an overview of Professor Kvalbein’s life and work. Near the end of the volume, Hvalvik also marshals together a bibliography of Kvalbein’s scholarly publications, 14 pages of material stretching from 1966 to posthumous works published in 2014.
