Qohelet’s complex rhetoric, particular syntax, and apparently antithetical statements (e.g., compare 2:24, 3:13, and 5:18 with 11:9) have resulted in an array of technical commentaries whose authors examine the idiosyncrasies of Ecclesiastes, striving to unravel its complexities and explicate the message(s) of the book. This scholarly pursuit has resulted in a continual demand for resources that are accessible to students with limited knowledge of Hebrew, cognate languages, and ancient Near Eastern backgrounds. Victor Morla, who has served on the faculties of theology and philosophy at the University of Deusto (Spain), provides this type of commentary in Eclesiastés: El Colapso del Sentido, which is a superbly written yet accessible Spanish-language commentary.
