This diverse collection of 17 invited essays honors the academic and personal example of NT scholar Scott Hafemann, who taught all but two of the authors. Of these essays, 2 deal with 1 and 2 Peter, 12 with Paul and Pauline texts, and the remaining 3 with related issues. The title Crucified Apostle is puzzling in light of the content of the essays but points to Peter’s manner of death and to Paul’s use of this metaphor (“crucified with Christ”). The golden thread through many of the essays, if this was even a central concern in organizing the essay topics, appears to be intertextual exegesis. This makes good sense in light of Hafemann’s lifelong work on 2 Corinthians; in fact, this volume would make a good reader for a seminary course dealing with intertextuality.
