This clearly presented and well-argued work is the published version of a doctoral dissertation supervised by Armin Baum and Rob van Houwelingen. It makes a valuable contribution to linguistic analyses comparing the Pastoral Epistles (PE) to the rest of the Pauline corpus. The study consists of an introduction, two main parts of three chapters each, and a conclusion. Each chapter also has a clear introduction and conclusion.
The three chapters in part one review “The Linguistic Problem of the Pastoral Epistles.” The first chapter reviews the work of key figures in the assessment of the Greek of the PE in comparison to the rest of the Pauline corpus, including the work of Evanson, Schleiermacher, Eichhorn, Holtzmann, and, especially, P. N. Harrison.
