The COVID-19 pandemic and consequent devasting health crisis caused theaters throughout the world to shut down in the early months of 2020. However, human ingenuity found alternate ways to satiate our desire for live performance. Theater companies, cable and streaming services, and video conferencing platforms offered programming of filmed plays and staged readings with professional, regional, and college actors. While some of these were performances that had already been filmed, several companies committed to creating new productions that could be livestreamed using such platforms as YouTube and Zoom. While the boxes of a Zoom screen became commonplace to many trying to meet with colleagues, friends, and family, they offer an interesting challenge to the actor.
