ABSTRACT

In the twenty-first century, women continue to be marginalized in music and music communities. Lopez explores these issues via the lens of her current research on El Paso punk rock. She not only highlights the obstacles in documenting women’s experience in music, but she develops a track list of relevant songs and a manifesto to remind researchers of ways to illuminate the multitude of roles women play in music. Lopez concludes that seeking out and documenting women’s voices is not merely a useful practice, but it is essential to fueling social change.
