Thoreau’s “The Bean-Field”

John T. Price is the author of three memoirs, including Man Killed by Pheasant and Other Kinships, and is editor of the Tallgrass Prairie Reader. A recipient of an NEA fellowship, his nonfiction has most recently appeared in Orion, Fourth Genre, Brevity, Terrain.org, and How We Speak to One Another: An Essay Daily Reader. He teaches at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he directs the English Department’s Creative Nonfiction Writing Program.
