Christopher L. Hill is Associate Professor of Asian Languages and Cultures and a faculty affiliate in Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan. He is the author of National History and the World of Nations (Duke University Press, 2008) and Figures of the World: Naturalist Fiction and Transnational Form (Northwestern University Press, 2020), from which his contribution to this issue of CR: The New Centennial Review is drawn. He is currently writing on postwar Japanese intellectuals and decolonization.
