Abstract

Exergy and specific exergy have been found together with nine other ecological attributes for 12 coastal ecosystems. The correlation of the 11 attributes was examined, and the extent to which exergy and specific exergy can be applied as indicators to assess ecosystem health was discussed. The two concepts cover a range of important properties of ecosystems, but other indicators are also required to provide a sufficiently comprehensive assessment of ecosystem health.
