One of the characteristic features of the AEHMS has been its dedication to publishing compendia of manuscripts from the conferences it organizes. The AEHMS has played a key role in bringing to light publications from several developing regions (Africa, China, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Vietnam, and South America).

Due to its scientific conferences and symposia, the Aquatic Ecosystem Health & Management Society (AEHMS) has been very active in the Asia Pacific region for more than 15 years (Table 1). Its first venture was the publication of the book Aquatic Ecosystems of China: Environmental and Toxicological Assessment (Munawar et al., 1995). The Society's second exposure to Chinese science occurred in 2000 when the AEHMS organized the “Fourth International Symposium on Sediment Quality Assessment” in Japan, in which many Chinese scientists actively participated (Munawar, 2003).
