The majority of the Great Lakes/Large Lakes researchers, policy makers, managers and students are aware by now of this important continuing series of Great Lakes of the World (GLOW) symposia on a global basis. The purpose of GLOW is to establish a platform where understanding of the structure, function and performance of healthy and damaged ecosystems can be discussed and promoted. The restoration of damaged ecosystems via integrated, multi-trophic, multi-disciplinary and sustainable perspectives is encouraged. In addition, the application of Ecosystem Based Management in the large and great lakes is one of the aims of the GLOW symposia. As GLOW is a chapter of the Aquatic Ecosystem Health and Management Society (AEHMS), the Society has a tradition of convening high quality symposia, followed by including peer reviewed publications in its primary journal AEHM as special issues.
